John earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from NC State University in 1974 with Magna Cum Laude honors. He then pursued his Masters in Business Administration at the University of North Carolina, specializing in Human Relations and Finance and completing his degree in 1976.


With a career spanning 14 years at Progress Energy, John held diverse roles in engineering, sales, cash management, and human resources. He obtained credentials as a Registered Professional Engineer and Certified Cash Manager, overseeing a $250 million investment portfolio and crafting compensation structures for employees, executives, and board members.


In 1998, John founded his independent practice and acquired series 6, 63, 65, 7, and 24 securities licenses alongside an insurance license. Initially focusing on clients from universities and hospitals in the southeast, his clientele has since broadened to include individuals, non-profits, and various retirement plans, all while maintaining a personalized, client-centric investment approach.


Based in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, John shares his home with his wife, Dianne, and has two adult children, Justin and Julie. His interests span golf, snow skiing, travel, woodworking, and spending weekends at his vacation home in Beaufort, NC.
